Data Protection Act

As Solicitors and Authorised High Court Enforcement Officers, Shergroup is required to comply with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998. As part of the Group’s Public Affairs Strategy, we have taken the time to meet with Senior Compliance Officers at the ICO to ensure that we not only comply with the legislation but embrace it when designing and building databases which hold personal data.

Shergroup’s Data Protection Act registration number is Z8444445. Details of our registration can be seen on the Information Commissioner’s Public Register Search facility at http://www.esd.informationcommissioner.gov.uk

The Information Commissioner has a range of duties including the promotion of good information handling and the encouragement of codes of practice for data controllers. “Data Controllers” include anyone who decide how and why personal data is processed. Personal data is information about identifiable, living individuals.

At Shergroup we ensure that all such data is handled with the utmost security and care not only to comply with the legislation but also out of respect for the details of persons who are recorded within our records.

Further material about the topic of data protection is available is from the Office of the
Information Commissioner
and also the Department of Constitutional Affairs.
